Vallis Aurea or the Golden Valley has been known since ancient Romans. Known for its grain and prized wines, it has maintained its reputation to this day. The valley in the center of Slavonia is bounded by hills on all sides, and the most famous slopes are the southern exposures of Papuk and Krndija within the Kutjevo Vineyard.
Kutjevo and the wine growing area around Kutjevo have been known as the wine capital of Croatian winemaking for centuries. The most famous and oldest Croatian but also European cellar is the one in Kutjevo, built by Jesuits, Cistercians, and held in it the prized wines of this region. The Vetovo wine growing area is located in the central part of the Vineyard, and has always produced premium wines.
